Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about membership, involvement, and CES programming.

Membership & Involvement

General Body members are welcome to attend CES events and engage with our community throughout the semester. Division Representatives take on a more active role supporting programming and operations, including event logistics, outreach, and internal initiatives alongside the E-Board.

Division Representative roles are open to Columbia undergraduates across CC, SEAS, Barnard, and GS. These positions are designed for students who want to contribute more directly to CES operations and division programming while building experience early on.

Division Representative recruitment typically runs early in the fall semester. We announce exact dates on our Instagram/LinkedIn and through campus channels—check those first if you’re planning ahead. In addition, be on the lookout for us at the annual fall club fair!

Expect a short written application (interest + availability) and, if selected, a brief interview or conversation. We mainly want to understand how you’d contribute to CES and which division you’re most excited to help build.

We value reliability, initiative, and strong communication more than a specific major or prior experience. If you’re consistent, curious, and willing to help execute high-signal programming, you’ll fit in.

Division Representatives support event execution (setup, check-in, speaker support), outreach and promotion, and division-specific projects that improve CES programming and operations. Responsibilities vary by week depending on the event calendar and division needs.

Time commitment depends on the programming calendar. Most weeks are light, with heavier involvement around major events. We aim to be respectful of academics and communicate expectations clearly.

Yes. CES events are designed to be accessible and student-first. Attend events, introduce yourself to organizers, and stay engaged—many members start that way before applying later.

Programs & Events

CES hosts speaker events, recruiting prep sessions, alumni panels, and community gatherings focused on practical pathways across finance, consulting, research, and beyond.

In general, yes. Some events may have limited capacity or require RSVP, but our goal is broad access and high-signal programming for the wider campus community.

Follow our Instagram and LinkedIn for announcements. We also share updates through campus channels and email—if you don’t see something, check our recent posts first.

Yes — we welcome suggestions. Send ideas with a short rationale (topic + audience + why now) to our board email so we can evaluate fit and feasibility.

For partnerships, speaker opportunities, or hosting an event with CES, reach out via email with your goals, timeline, and what you’d like to run. We’ll respond with next steps and logistics.

Yes — we periodically run recruiting-focused sessions (resume, networking, interview prep) alongside industry panels and talks. The best way to catch these is through announcements during the semester.
